Join WLBTC for our Fashion Show and Vendor Boutique honoring Naomi Gordon, Director of the Ruth and Edward Taubman Early Childhood Center and Karen Deerwester, Director of Family Time.

Naomi Gordon is the Director of the Ruth and Edward Taubman Early Childhood Center.  She began her journey working in the field of early childhood education at the childcare center on Temple University’s campus in Philadelphia where she attended college. After one year as an allied health major, she realized her calling was to work with young children in the education setting. Naomi’s first college observation was in a local synagogue preschool. Little did she know that this first step was the beginning of her journey as a Jewish educator.
Naomi worked as an early childhood teacher conducting “Mommy and Me” classes, and as a classroom teacher for children ages 2 through 5 years of age. Naomi has also worked as a provider consultant, assisting many childcare center directors and teachers with quality improvement plans. Naomi has conducted secular and Jewish trainings for educators at county and state conferences.

Naomi began her work as a camp director which eventually led to her path as an early childhood center director over 20 years ago. Naomi is passionate about her work with young children and families in our NAEYC Accredited school. Along with developmentally appropriate and best practices in education, Naomi’s passion is to bring Judaism to young children through fun and engaging activities. Emphasizing the importance of teaching Shabbat and holidays, Jewish values, and Torah has brought a sense of community and love for Judaism to the children and families who attend our school.  Naomi is extremely proud of her work at The Ruth and Edward Taubman Early Childhood Center and credits the school’s incredible success to the collaboration she has with the amazing people she works with at B’nai Torah Congregation.

Karen Deerwester is the owner of Family Time Coaching & Consulting, inspiring and supporting parents and professionals in all aspects of “living with children.”  Family Time currently offers 14 classes a week for infants through 2 year olds here at B’nai Torah Congregation. Family Time introduces young families to Jewish family life and Jewish community through parent-child classes, Ahava Shabbat and Ahava Family.

Karen is the author of The Entitlement-Free Child, The Playskool Guide to Potty Training and The Potty Training Answer Book which won the NAPPA Gold Award for parenting resources. She is also the host of The See Me Hear Me Love Me Podcast for parents, with listeners in over 45 countries.

A highly requested speaker/trainer for parents and educators, Karen’s high energy presentations touch the hearts of teachers and parents everywhere as they renew their commitment to children and to themselves. Karen was the National Spokesperson for Hasbro Family Game Night and for Clorox Clean-Up Creative Messy Play. Karen reaches thousands of parents each month as an online parent resource and has been a parenting guest for numerous media outlets including MSNBC, NBC, and NPR.

Karen is proud to call B’nai Torah Congregation home for the last 20 years. B’nai Torah has given Family Time families a special place to grow and learn and it has given Karen the privilege of watching Family Time Graduates continue to thrive through each new stage in the ECC, MRS, college and beyond!
